If you are helping a patron set up a Hoopla account and you are receiving a system error, check their account for any notations in a barcode field. This is the primary cause of this error.

 

It is no longer our practice to include these messages in the barcode field but older cards may have them. You will see this if there is more than one barcode number listed with a message after at least one of them. Such as

2130900xxxxxxx LOST 2/25/03 ho/cn

 

Such messages should be relocated to the notes field. Once the account has only an unencumbered barcode field, you should be able to set up the account. I have asked Hoopla to work on a system level solution but until that is available this fix will work.
